During this season, our church is going to participate in a special “Christmas Impact” offering. We all know Christmas is a special time for giving. Each year we invite you to make Jesus the priority in your gift giving by considering a special gift over and above what you normally give to Him. This offering will greatly help us to continue to be the light He wants us to be in our community. Christmas Impact is a call to sacrificial giving with a goal of $90,000 for five ministry initiatives:
Missions- We will source our mission team with resources to be the hands and feet of Jesus in tangible ways locally and globally.
Technology Innovation-We will reach new people with innovative technology.
Persecuted Believers-We will provide support to believers who are being persecuted.
Orphan Care-We will care for orphans in their plight.
Staffing-We will provide greater care and leadership for our church as we grow.
We are simply asking every person to consider giving as much to Jesus this Christmas as we give to everyone else! That way, He stays FIRST on our Christmas list! You will find a “Christmas Impact” offering envelope enclosed for your convenience in addition to details about the offering. There will be an opportunity for you to give your special offering during the week of December 16 or until December 31.
Please know that you are in our prayers during this time and we can’t wait to worship Jesus with you this Christmas season! When they saw the star, they were filled with joy! They entered the house and saw the child with his mother, Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasure chests and gave him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. (Matthew 2:10-11, NLT)
This Special Offering will be received through December 31, 2018. Use online giving and indicate “Christmas Impact 2018.”
The Purposes of This Offering
To source our mission team with resources to be the hands and feet of Jesus.
We have an unified, active mission team who stays in contact with our ministry partners throughout the year. And, we want to be able to unleash them to invest in opportunities throughout the year by supplying them with funding to be the hands and feet of Jesus in tangible ways locally and globally.
To reach new people with innovative technology.
The fields are white for the harvest. And, technology is becoming a critical tool in being engaged in the harvest. As technology advances, we want to advance with it at a pace that is relevant and innovative. We envision streaming our worship experiences live, with quality interaction to engage those watching online.
To provide support to believers who are persecuted.
There were approximately 1.5 million Christians (six per cent of population) in Iraq in 2003, but there are only 250,000 left as of 2017. This is not unusual in many countries. As believers face persecution in other countries, we want to provide support for them to be able to maintain a faithful gospel witness in the midst of persecution.
To care for orphans in their plight.
It is clear in God’s word that we should both personally and corporately be about the business of caring for the orphan. On a local level, we want to supply our adoption fund for families in our church who may need financial assistance in their adoption.
To care for our church as we grow.
As CLT grows, our staffing needs change, and we need to be prepared for those changes. We always want to be able to care for the body of Christ at CLT the way God’s word speaks about it in Acts 20:28-”Keep watch over the flock…which he bought with his own blood.” Providing care and leadership is a biblical mandate for us and we will support the growth of the church in this way.
Why a Special Offering?
As part of God’s plan to grow the faith of the people in His church, He calls us to sacrificial giving from time to time. This Special Offering is an opportunity for us to grow in our faith and to prepare us for what God wants to do through our church in 2018. This offering is to position us to make a greater impact in our city, in our church and around the world in 2018.
What’s the Difference Between the Regular Offering and this Special Offering?
The regular Church at Lake Travis offering is the proportional amount (10% of our income) that we set apart on a systematic basis and give throughout the year. From time to time there are opportunities to give in a sacrificial way. Christmas Impact is one of those sacrificial occasions that stretch us to grow in our faith. Christmas Impact should be over and above what you regularly give.
How Much Should I Give?
Since the goal is $90,000 this year, Christmas Impact will involve everyone. Please prayerfully consider a sacrificial gift that will stretch your faith. The precise amount you give is between you and God. People in our church can give a $10,000, $5,000 or even a $1,000 gift. Others will be able to give between $100 and $500. The issue is not equal giving, but equal sacrifice. What amount can you give that will stretch your faith? Remember, consistent gifts over time add up – a person giving $50 per week over an eight-week period will give $400 to this Special Offering.
Why is the Goal So Large?
Christmas Impact is our annual Special Offering as the Church at Lake Travis, and the goal of $90,000 is nearly three times our monthly offering. We wanted to be realistic, and yet have a goal that would stretch our faith in a BIG way. The ministries supported by this offering are BIG – Big dreams require big faith and big funding. The accomplishment of these big dreams will be determined by your gifts to this Special Offering.
When Should I Give?
The best time to give will be Sunday, December 16. Please pray about making your largest and best gift on that day. However, you can continue to give until December 31, 2018. Please use the “Christmas Impact” offering envelopes or include a note designating that your gift is for the Special Offering.
Can I Give Online via my Bank’s Bill Pay Option or Through Online Giving?
Yes. When you give at TchurchLT.securegive.com via online giving, simply select “Christmas Impact 2018” special offering under the giving menu. Likewise, you can use your bank online payment option to send a check directly to the church P.O. Box 340057, Austin, TX 78734. Again, simply mark in the memo area that your gift is for the “Christmas Impact” special offering. This keeps us from incurring online banking fees that take away from your total gift.
Can I Give In-Kind Gifts of Stocks or Bonds?
Of course! Since The Church at Lake Travis is a 501c3 organization there can be tremendous tax benefits for you by giving in-kind gifts. For information on this type of giving, simply contact one of our partners, Todd Vincent, at 800-440-4891 OR Todd.Vincent@edwardjones.com.
Are My Gifts Tax-Deductible?
All gifts to The Church at Lake Travis, whether via the regular offering or this Special Offering, are completely tax-deductible. Your gift will be deductible in the tax year given (i.e., gifts given by December 31, 2017 will be deductible on your 2017 taxes). Please be sure to include your name and address when you give so that a receipt can be sent to you for your tax preparations. You are not required to utilize a tax-deduction for your gift, but it is available for all gifts.
How Did We Arrive at a $90,000 Goal?
The $90,000 goal was prayerfully set by the Church at Lake Travis team and board. It is approximately three times our regular monthly giving. It is a God-sized goal that can only be accomplished through 100% participation and sacrificial giving by our Church at Lake Travis family and friends. Since we are expecting God to bless this Special Offering, it has been determined that any amount over and above our goal will go directly to our Building Fund which currently has $100,000 in it.
How Will I Know if We Reach Our Goal?
Please pray for God’s guidance as we all give sacrificially. You will be updated on our giving progress on Sundays at the Church at Lake Travis in the coming weeks. Reaching this goal will be a celebration of what we can do together as we stretch our faith under God’s leadership.
